Types of Therapy

Types of Therapy

Here at Wind of Change behavioral health services, we only take a limited number of patients for our residential treatment, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs at a time. Only having 8 beds allows us to personalize treatment to each client’s needs. We want time to focus on what’s going on in the client’s life and give them one-on-one treatment in a family-like setting. Every client’s treatment plan will include a combination of individual, group, and family therapy. We specialize in treating trauma, sexual abuse, adoption issues, divorce issues, borderline personality disorder, behavioral issues, depression, anger, dual diagnosis, and suicidal patients.

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy is based on the idea that is helpful to be able to speak about feelings in a non-judgmental setting, and that healing comes when one is heard and understood. It is an essential part of dual diagnosis treatment due to its restorative nature.

At Winds of Change Residential Treatment Center, you will receive weekly one-on-one therapy sessions, also known as talk therapy, with a master’s level clinician. In these sessions, you will work together with your therapist to increase your understanding of one’s thoughts and behavior patterns to help increase function and well-being. Your therapist will help you learn more effective ways to manage stress, improve interpersonal relationships, and improve your ability to deal with difficult situations in more effective and healthier ways. You may also work with your therapist to develop or increase your ability to make healthy decisions, set and achieve goals, and increase self-awareness. On day one you and your personal therapist will work together to create an individualized treatment plan for your time at Winds of Change with specific goals you want to achieve. You will then develop a plan to work towards achieving these goals and setting yourself up for life-long success.

There are some things that are simply best handled in a one-on-one environment. Dealing with specific behaviors, setting personal goals, and trying new coping techniques and habits can all happen in an intimate conversation between a client and a counselor, especially when relationships of trust and confidence are developed. Wind of Change strives to help young women understand more about themselves and their situation, as well as their relationship with God. By using evidence-based therapies for mental and emotional challenges, we help women identify the root of behavioral health problems and equip them with coping tools that can serve them in the future. Our experienced and personable staff helps girls to make plans for the future and troubleshoot harmful behavior.

Group Therapy

Humans are social creatures and the need to congregate can be used as a powerful therapeutic tool for healing. Therapy groups can provide participants with a supportive and understanding environment that can help facilitate the healing process. With a therapist leading, groups can also help foster healthy attachments and teach new social skills.

At Winds of Change, we understand the benefit of group therapy and it is an important component of our program. You will receive daily group therapy led by both master’s and bachelor’s level clinicians that address a wide range of topics, from trauma to dual diagnosis, to social skills and healthy coping skills. You will experience several models of groups during therapy at Winds of Change, including psychoeducational, skills development, and interpersonal processing groups. These groups allow clients to educate and inform, learn new skills they can apply in a variety of settings, strengthen their emotional development and address childhood struggles that may have led to poor decision-making and impulsivity.  Learning and practicing these new skills in a group setting allows participants to share experiences and find support from peers in their healing journey.

Often, young women who come to Wind of Change behavioral health treatment centers are surprised and relieved to meet others who have experienced the same challenges that they have. Clients who come to us struggle with a variety of problems, from borderline personality disorder to PTSD. Because each individual must find their own way to recovery it can often help to hear about solutions that have helped others. This can help clients to discover their own path to peace and healing.

All group therapy sessions are facilitated and supervised by licensed therapists who are experienced in these kinds of settings so that clients can get the most out of their interactions. Often, the support of the community that clients find at Wind of Change behavioral Health services is one of the biggest factors for change and recovery.

Family Therapy

At Winds of Change, our clinical treatment and supportive home environment goal is a healthy transition to daily life and work, along with healthy and functioning family and peer relationships. This is why at Winds of Change; family therapy is an important part of our program. Family involvement in the healing process has been proven to significantly benefit the client’s overall treatment and transition back into daily independent life. For this reason, we strongly encourage family involvement at all stages of the healing process. Some benefits of family therapy during treatment include: increased family support for the person in recovery, increased awareness of warning signs of relapse, improved treatment retention, reduced risk of relapse, and promotion of family strengths.

Family therapy at Winds of Change will look like what you and your family needs. Upon admission, you will meet with your therapist and discuss your goals for your family relationships. Some sessions may include the entire family, some may include only certain family members, to give you as the client exactly what is needed to address the issues present. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to, discussing in a safe space, each person’s feelings and concerns, and another may focus on learning and practicing healthy communication skills. At Winds of Change, your family therapy sessions will be tailored to your unique situation and be what you and your family need to have a healthy, functioning relationship.

We believe that God created us in family groups for a reason. We need each other’s support and strength in order to face the challenges that life throws our way.

Sometimes, those challenges actually have roots in the family system itself. Other times, there are simply walls between us that must be breached in order to achieve true healing. This will be facilitated by a licensed professional counselor who knows how to manage the complicated and very sensitive dynamics of a family. Wind of Change wants to build up not only the individual client but the whole family and help everyone come away with tools that will facilitate better interactions, support, and communication.
